Comprehensive assessment to evaluate a horse's health, soundness, and suitability for a buyer's intended use.
Key Components of a Pre-Purchase Exam:​
Flexion Tests:
Procedures designed to identify potential joint or soft tissue soreness.
Optional Diagnostics:
Based on budget and intended use, extras may include radiographs (X-rays), blood panels (CBC, chemistry, drug screen), ultrasound, or endoscope.
Physical Exam:
A thorough examination of eyes, heart, lungs, teeth, and overall body condition.
Musculoskeletal & Soundness Exam:
Evaluation of legs and joints, including watching the horse walk/trot in straight lines, tight turns, on a lunge line, and under saddle

Hoof Lameness X-Ray Exam
Standard Views:
Generally, five views are taken: lateral (side view), dorsoproximal-dorsodistal oblique (DP), and various oblique views.

Key Measurements & Structures:
Hoof Wall Alignment:
The angle of the hoof wall is compared to the angle of the pedal bone (coffin bone) to identify misalignment.
Sole Depth:
Measured to determine if there is enough protection for the coffin bone.
Navicular Bone:
Evaluated for structural changes (e.g., changes in the flexor cortex, medullary cavity).
Coffin Joint Space:
Checked for signs of arthritis.
Founder/Laminitis:
Assessed by looking for separation of the hoof wall from the pedal bone and rotation of the bone.
